GUWAHATI, June 25: The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) is going to stage a sit-in strike all over the State on June 28 demanding the State Government to arrest the rising prices of essential commodities in the State and to punishment black marketers and hoarders. In a statement issued to the press today, the leaders of the students’ body said that the people of the State had to bear the brunt of rise in prices of essential commodities during the Congress regime over the years in the State. The people of the State did hope a succour after the BJP-led government taking charge in the State. “However, a month has elapsed but the new dispensation at Dispur has failed to check the rise in prices,” the statement said. AASU president Dipangko Kumar th and general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi said: “The AASU has always been demanding check in the rise in prices of must items in the State. The people of the State did hope that the rampant dismantling of check-gates in the State by the BJP-led government would lower the prices of commodities in the State. However, that hasn’t happened. The prices of commodities are still very high in the State. Rather we have a feeling that black marketers and unscrupulous hoarders are more active in the State now. The prices have to be checked, besides exemplary punishment to black marketers and hoarders. We appeal to Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal and other ministers concerned to take steps to bring down the prices of all essential commodities.”
