AASU protests against granting citizenship to minority refugees

GOLAGHAT (Dhekial), July 26: The members of All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) Golaghat district committee on Tuesday staged a sit-in near the Deputy Commissioner’s office protesting against the Centre’s decision to grant citizenship to minority refugees.

Talking to media persons, organizing secretary of AASU, Raju Phukan criticized the rendra Modi government. He said that people of Assam had supported BJP expecting change in Assam. Before assembly election the BJP promised to solve the problems of poor people. But after coming to power, the BJP government failed to solve the major problems of Assam.

Phukan further said that Prime Minister rendra Modi took part in an election rally and assured to ban entry of illegal migrants to Assam.

But after election, the BJP government has issued notification for giving  citizenship to all minority refuges from Bangladesh and Pakistan.

He further said that the steps taken up by the Modi government would paralyze the indigenous people of Assam socially, economically and educatiolly. “The AASU will never allow Assam to bear the burden of minority refugees,” he added.

AASU  assistant secretary Monuwar Hussain, AASU Golaghat district committee adviser Ratul Dutta, president in-charge Mridul Saikia and general secretary Abhibartan Goswami also took part in the protest.
