AASU seeks probe into fincial anomalies in college

JOYSAGAR, March 31: Fund misappropriation to the tune of about Rs. 90 lakh has been alleged in the mti Swahid Peoli Phukan College, Sivasagar.
 A fund of around Rs 90 lakh was released in 2006-07 by the University Grants Commission (UGC) to the college for development of college infrastructure. With the fund, the college authorities had to construct a Buddha Study Centre, Ambedkar Study Centre and Nehru Study Centre, construct new classrooms, renovate old classrooms, renovate teachers’ common room, construct Library Hall and the Principal’s office. But the college authorities allegedly did not build any study centre and misappropriated the fund allotted.
In the me of building swimming poll, lakhs of rupees were allegedly pocketed by a section of the college governing body. Filly, as the allegations of fincial anomalies came to light and the UGC authorities were informed by some conscious section of people, the UGC stopped fincial aid to the college recently.
Meanwhile, AASU mti regiol unit has reacted sharply to the alleged anomalies and demanded a magisterial probe into all the allegations. As the alleged fincial anomalies took place during 2007-2012, the then college Principal and the college governing body members are now under the scanner.
