AASU stages blockade

GAURISAGAR, July 24: The 44-km portion of the tiol highway in Sivasagar district from Jhanji to Demow is getting worse by the day. There are huge potholes in Jhanji, Jamuguri, Phulpanichiga,  Charing Gogoi ali, Duarahpar, Hatighuli, Gaurisagar, Bhatiapar, Sivasagar bypass, Darika and Dikhow bridge portions  and Demow  commuters have been facing  great hardship.
 Following alleged utter negligence by tiol Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHDCL) in repairing the said NH-37 portions, on Monday AASU, Sivasagar subdivision committee blocked NH-37 at Gaurisagar from an hour. During this time, traffic was disrupted.
 The AASU activists expressed their anger by shouting various slogans. A DGM of NHDCL, Fakrul Islam was present and  exchanged views  with AASU leaders . The AASU activists strongly criticized the NHDCL for alleged apathy and negligence in repairing the deplorable tiol highway.
 The  NHDCL  has signed a MoU with Rajshekhor Construction Ltd  to complete  repairing of the said road within the time frame of 45 days  at the  cost Rs 2 crore in the  fourth week of March. But one-and-half months have already passed but repair work in going on at a sil’s progress. AASU demanded the NHDCL to curtail the tender of Rajshekhor Construction Ltd. On the other hand,  DGM of NHDCL, Fakrul Islam  committed  before the AASU activists that the deplorable portions of NH-37 in Sivasagar would be repaired within August 5.
 But AASU leaders said that the blockade would be called off after a written commitment was given by NHDCL higher authority after negotiation with the Sivasagar Deputy Commissioner and AASU Sivasagar. Else, the blockade will continue.
