Lakhimpur, Sep 16: All Assam Students Union (AASU)’s Lakhimpur district committee today staged protest in front of Deputy Commissioner’s office here against the hike of the prices of essential commodities in the State.

More than 200 AASU activists took to the street and criticized the ruling government for failing to solve the issue of price hike of essential commodities. They shouted various slogans against the saffron party.

“The hike of price of essential commodities has made the common people suffer. The price of all the essential commodities has increased. If the common people cannot afford to buy  commodities like rice, pulses, sugar and salt then where is the ‘Parivartan’ promised by the Prime Minister in his election campaign. The Centre and the State government have forgotten all their promises and failed to solve the issues of Assam. The Centre has proved that it has no commitment for the people of Assam,” said an AASU leader.

“Due to black marketing of essential commodities in the state the prices of essential commodities have increased and our government has failed to take steps against it. We have submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister through the district administration to remind the government again about the price rise issue and to control it as soon as possible,” Dhanmoni Dutta of AASU said to The Sentinel.
