AATSA opposes power tariff hike

FROM OUR CORRESPONDENT

SIVASAGAR, Jan 5: The Sivasagar district committee of All Assam Tea Tribes Students’ Association (AATSA) has opposed the frequent power tariff hike in Assam .

“A tea tribe consumer, who earns Rs. 126 only as daily wages, paid around Rs 250 to Rs 300 per month earlier, and is currently paying Rs 500 to Rs 600 after the recent hike of Rs. 1.18 in December, 2016. Earlier, tariff was hiked by 55 paisa in the month of November, 2016. If the rise in the power tariff by APDCL continues at this rate, no tea tribe family will be able to consume electricity,” Sunil Tanti, secretary of AATSA, Sivasagar district committee, said. Opposing the frequent hikes, a delegation of AATSA submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner of Sivasagar, addressed to the Chief Minister recently.

Meanwhile, Grahak Suraksha Samiti, Sivasagar District Committee, also expressed resentment against the frequent hike of power tariff and appealed the government to ensure electricity security to common people.
