GOLAGHAT, April 5: The activists of All Assam Tea Tribe Students’ Association (AATTSA) Golaghat district committee staged a protest on Thursday in Golaghat demanding Rs. 351 daily wage for tea garden workers and to solve various problems faced by the workers in tea gardens. The president and secretary of AATTSA Golaghat district committee, Jagdish Baraik and Umasankar Kurmi, respectively said that the Assam Government in the year 2017 declared to increase the daily wage of tea garden workers to Rs. 351 from 2018. But till date the declaration of the government has not been implemented.

Besides, the tea garden workers have to live in poor conditions. They are deprived of proper medical treatment, pure drinking water supply and electricity supply. The tea garden authorities do not provide proper facilities and the government too chooses to ignore these problems of the tea garden labourers, alleged the AATTSA leaders. The AATTSA Golaghat district committee has demanded that the daily wage of tea garden workers should be hiked to Rs 351, the workers should get proper electrification and pure drinking water supply, land should be allotted to landless labourers and PF and gratuity money should be released immediately. They submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister through the Deputy Commissioner of Golaghat for resolving the problems of tea garden labourers.
