JOYSAGAR, May 12: The All Assam Tea Tribe Students’ Association (AATTSA) Charaideo district committee, in association with the Sapekhati regional committee, staged a protest in Sonari Sadar town on Saturday seeking justice for the 18-year old girl who was allegedly gang raped by armed miscreants on May 9 in Mazhi Basti of Borbaruah Khat Tea Estate under Sapekhati PS of Charaideo district.

Meanwhile, ULFA (I) c-in-c Paresh Baruah has already served a clarification regarding the incident. He said that some powerful group was trying to pin the blame on the ULFA (I) in order to spoil the image of the outfit in the eyes of the people.

Sapekhati Police have not been successful in finding out the identity of rapists. The weak role of the police was sharply criticized by the protesters. Later, the protesters submitted separate memoranda to the Charaideo SDO as well the IGP, Assam Police, seeking impartial investigation in order to give justice to the poor victim. Hundreds of AATTSA members took part in the protest.
