Abducted boy rescued by locals, two kidppers held

From a Correspondent

Bokajan, September 17: An alarming situation prevailed in the Koilamati area of Bokajan following the alleged abduction of a 15-year old boy when the latter was working in the rubber plantation of Sarsing Teron.

Sources said that Kathar Engti was allegedly abducted at gun-point by a group of four armed miscreants as the plantation owner failed to meet their extortion demand. Later, the enraged local people launched a massive search operation amid thick forest and busted their hideout, thereby rescuing the captive. The public even bbed two members of the gang - Prem Munda and Tiru Kumar Rai – and beat them up. The other two members however, maged to flee.

They were later handed over to Barpathar Police and are undergoing treatment in Bokajan Civil Hospital. A pistol with three live rounds of ammunition was also recovered from their possession.

Kidp and extortion has become the order of the day in Karbi Anglong. But, the policing machinery has failed to provide any positive results and the law-and-order situation is deteriorating day-by-day. ASI of Assam Police- Hiranya Bora, posted at Diphu Town Police Outpost went missing from the town under mysterious circumstances on August 17. The police however, retrieved his motor bike from Diphu Lumding road the next day but have apparently failed to trace the missing officer. An unidentified decomposed body was recovered on September 4 but the family members of Bora refused to accept the body without certainty and so a D test has been arranged for conformation.
