Abide by pollution control norms: Tara

Itagar, Jan 21: The Aruchal Pradesh State Pollution Control Board (APSPCB) Chairman Techi Tagi Tara today urged upon the road construction agencies to obtain requisite clearances from the Board while constructing highway/trans-Aruchal highway in the state. Failing to abide by the pollution Act and Rules would invite action against the defaulters; Tara said while presiding over the meeting held at Board’s conference hall, harlagun today to discuss about the problems caused by air pollution following Highway construction in the Capital Complex in particular and state as a whole.

Representatives from the state PWD (Highway), trans-Aruchal Highway and Advanced Landing Grounds (ALGs) construction companies like T K Engineering Consortium Private Limited, NCC Limited and Sushee IVRCL attended the meeting.

Expressing concern over the hardship faced by the general public due to air pollution during highway construction in Capital Complex, the Board chairman has urged the construction agencies to sprinkle water on the road from Banderdewa to Hollongi at least twice a day to contain dust emission and air pollution. M/s Sushee IVRCL engaged in construction of Trans-Highway in Sagalee was also asked to follow the same.

The SPCB chairman also urged State PWD (Highway) to procure two water tankers for spraying water to reduce dust emission.

The Pollution Board officers highlighted various provisions of Water (Prevention & Control of Pollution) Act 1974, Air (Prevention & Control of Pollution) Act 1981 and other Environmental laws through Power Point presentation in the meeting.

The construction companies agreed to abide by the guidelines to maintain the pristine environment, according to an official release.
