ABSU demands conversion of NH 15 to four lane

From our Correspondent

UDALGURI, May 3: The All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) has expressed deep concern over the non-inclusion of the NH 15 (earlier 52) from Baihata Chariali to Joi in the list of four-lane conversion. However, ABSU has welcomed the Union Government projects to convert the two-lane roads into four lane.

Earlier, the present tiol Highway 15 was in the list for conversion into four lane and the UPA government had also conducted a survey. But now it has not been included in the project list of Union PWD Minister Nitin Gadkari. The people of Kamrup (rural), Darrang, Udalguri, Sonitpur, Lakhimpur and Dhemaji will hence be deprived, said the ABSU.

“The road is very important for the north bank of Brahmaputra in Assam which is also a lifeline for the people of Assam and Aruchal Pradesh. It also connects the strategically important place like Tawang and Joi. Although, there are three MPs of the ruling party from the region and two ministers, Sarbanda Sonowal and Kiren Rijiju, the road was dropped from the list of conversion to four lane,” lamented ABSU vice-president Dipen Boro.

The ABSU has demanded inclusion of the road for conversion into four lane and also urged the Assam Chief Minister to take necessary action by sending a proposal to the Union Government.
