ABSU to work with new vision to push Bodos forward: ABSU president

KOKRAJHAR, Feb 13: The president of the ABSU, Promod Boro, after unfurling the organizatiol flag on Monday morning, said that the students’ body had completed its 50-year journey with various experience of struggle. He said the students’ union would work with new vision to push the Bodos forward in every respect. He said the ABSU had taken up new strategies with the motto ‘live, work and prosper’ to make the Bodos stronger in every respect.

Boro said the ABSU would keep a tab on quality education, women empowerment, socio-economic reformation, political rights, land rights, cultural affairs, youth affairs, language and literature and human rights. He also said the ABSU would work against the use of drugs and consumption of alcohol among the youngsters, terrorism, violation of human rights and injustices toward the community. He said people had sacrificed for the cause of the community in the long struggle for Bodoland but now, the leaders would lead from the front and they would sacrifice for the society. He said the BTC was formed for safeguarding the Bodos and their land, but the land of the indigenous communities was being given away to various private parties. No one was authorized to allot land to private parties as the struggle for existence of the Bodos was related to protection of land, he reiterated.

Earlier, Boro received the guard of honour given by the march past team followed by homage to the Bodoland martyrs by former president of All Assam Tribal Sangha, Ranjit Kr. Borgoyary. Tribute to the great soul was paid by the new president of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha, Toren Boro.

Tribute to the first Bodoland martyr, Sujit rzary was paid by his father Mongalsing rzary at his memorial tomb at Bhatipara while tribute to Bodofa Upendra th Brahma was paid at the statue of Bodofa at Children Park in Kokrajhar by his elder brother Sameswar Brahma.

 As part of today’s programme, there were competitions in literature and sports. The volleyball competition was iugurated by the president of Assam Football Association, Hemendra th Brahma while kabaddi competition was iugurated by BTC CHD of Sports and Youth Welfare, Jagyabati Basumatary.
