ABSU urges Centre to resolve issues of Bodo community

Kokrajhar, Feb 22: The All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) urged upon the Government of India to take proper initiative to resolve all pending issues of Bodo and other indigenous communities of the State.

In a Press Release, ABSU president Pramod Boro and general secretary Lawrence Islary welcomed the Union Government’s announcement to established new central university in the country and urged the government to fulfil the long pending demand of ABSU and the people of Bodoland area to establish a central university in BTAD region.

The release stated that a cabinet sitting of ABSU was held at Rangia, Chirakhundi, ABSU office on Saturday and adopted some important resolutions for proper initiative and necessary time bound action. The students’ union urge the government and concerned department not to give in to any obstacles in updating the NRC withinthe  stipulated time period given by the Supreme Court of India.

The ABSU expressed a strong apprehension on the security arrangement in the forthcoming BTC election because in the last couple of elections the security arrangement was ignored by the concerned authority for which people witnessed conflict and violence in the region during election time. It strongly urged both the government and concerned department to ensure full-proof security arrangement.

The students’ union also resolved to support all the candidates selected by PCDR for the greater interest of unity, peace and all round development of the region and also appealed to all sections of people in BTAD area to the PCDR.

“ABSU wishes for a strong democratic establishment in the region and for the protection of constitutiol right of the people. Frequent occurrence of violence and unruly governce in

BTAD for the last couple of years has suppressed democracy in the region,” stated the press release.

The ABSU also urged the government of India to launch a new train Aroi Express in the ensuing current Union Rail Budget and demanded stoppage of the new train (harlagun New) launched on February 20 from harlagun to New Delhi at Udalguri Railway station and Kokrajhar Railway station, which are key stations for connectivity with the neighbouring country Bhutan and neighbouring State Arunchal Pradesh.

The ABSU also vehemently condemned the alleged rape and murder near Balukpong Railway station of a minor girl from the village Hajw Gudi No.2.under Chariduar Police Station in Sonitpur district and demanded strict punishment to the accused and a compensation of Rs 20 lakh to the victim’s family.
