Itagar, February 18: While welcoming the proposed iuguration of harlagun-Delhi AC Express, the Aruchal Chamber of Commerce and Industries today demanded introduction of Rajdhani Express and an Inter-City Express to Guwahati preferably in the evening besides regular goods train services.

A sign board inscribed ‘Tourist ILP Facilitation Centre’ in front of a huge hall with nine glass enclosure counters and sitting arrangement was ready to receive the visitors while police personnel were posted at the police check gate at the entrance of the station.

Pointing out that train service, particularly goods train would serve as a boon for the growth of trade and commerce by facilitating transportation of goods economically from different parts of the country, chung demanded immediate construction of warehouse at Borum.

He said that the meter gauge Aruchal Express (No 15813), introduced by the British Raj from Guwahati to Murkongselek (origilly from Alipurduar Junction) covering a distance of 508 km, basically for transportation of tea and security forces, was suspended in 2013 for conversion of Rangia junction to Murkongselek track to broad gauge, he said.

The train which has been reintroduced should touch Borum to benefit the masses while strictly adhering to the ILP provision, he added.
