Accused in murder of Assam Police commando trainer Girish Dutta arrested in Tinsukia

DIGBOI: Based on a case 91 /19 registered at Makum Police Station in Tinsukia district following the murder of a young Assam Police commando trainer earlier on Monday, a special team of Assam Police arrested Mintu Chutia for his involvement in the crime.

"The accused Chutia, who was at large after the commission of the crime, finally fell into our net and we arrested him from Barekuri Borgaon area in Makum this morning. He is being interrogated," said Asif Ahmed, the Additional Superintendent of Police, Tinsukia.

Known for his valour and politeness and friendly attitude among the fraternity, commando trainer Girish Dutta was brutally stabbed by an unidentified youth. The incident took place close to his residence at Ashok Nagar near the rail crossing while he was returning home after attending a cultural night programme at Tingrai in Digboi.

The heinous crime perpetrated without any valid rhyme and reason, has been widely condemned and the local people had also resorted to NH 37 and NH 38 road blockade earlier on Monday morning to demand justice for the victim and his grief-stricken family members.

Meanwhile, a pale of gloom has descended upon the Assam Police unit in Tinsukia district and police officials have expressed condolence at Girish's demise. "He was a man with distinct qualities and virtues coupled with bravery and boldness," said Biju Das, the OC of Jagun outpost. The exact intention and motive behind the murder is yet to be ascertained.
