ACKHSA pays homage to Prof Ramendu Bhattacharjee

SILCHAR, February 8: All Cachar Karimganj Hailakandi Students’ Association (ACKHSA) remembered late Prof Ramendu Bhattacharjee who passed away on last Sunday. In his memory, a meeting was organised on Saturday here.

 The Pro–Vice–Chancellor of Assam University Prof Ramendu Bhattacharjee breathed his last on Sunday after he received a severe heart attack. He was 57 and is survived by his wife Rinku Chakraborty and a son. Prof Ramendu Bhattacharjee suffered a cardiac attack at night and then he was immediately rushed to Silchar Medical College and Hospital where the doctors declared him “brought dead”.

 Prof Bhattacharjee, known for his cool and calm demeanor, had worked at St. Edmund’s College of Shillong before joining the Assam University in 1997. His wife Rinku Chakraborty is a teacher at the Government Boys’ School, Labang, while his only son is a student of engineering at Bhubaneswar.

 While speaking at the condolence meeting presided over by the former principal of Gurucharan College O Churamoni Singha, Himadri Sekhar Das, a research scholar of the department of Physics, Assam University, said that Dr Ramendu Bhattacharjee was a great scholar and he had worked with Bharat Rat CNR Rao and they had jointly published more than three thesis papers in Physics, which is a great achievement.

 Dr Subir Kar, former HOD of Bengali department, Assam University, said that Dr Ramendu Bhattacharjee was a professor of physics, but he was a great poet too with a good knowledge of Bengali. In some poems he explained deep theories of physics in easy manner which is a great move he believes. Dr Kar added that his lose had created a deep void in the varsity which would be difficult to fill in.

 Satadal Acharjee, a staff of Assam University, shared his experience that he had with the late professor. He added that Prof Bhattacharjee often used to read out his poems to them which were very delightful. As a human being, he never did any bad to anyone and he was a great soul, Satadal remarked.

 The advisor to ACKHSA Rupam ndi Purkayastha said that Prof Bhattacharjee had a great contribution to the university in its initial years which could never be forgotten. Rupam added that  Prof Bhattacharjee had also supported anything that  had a good cause. “When there was any kind of problems related to the student, Prof Bhattacharjee was always ready to help. He was student friendly and used to love his students like anything. We will miss him,” said Rupam.

 Among others spoke at the meeting included Niranjan Dutta, Birendra Sinha, Parthankar Choudhury, Sudip Chakraborty, Apratim g.
