ACMS office gheraoed, hike in wages of tea workers demanded

DULIAJAN, March 25: More than 2,000 workers from 17 tea estates of Duliajan and its neighbouring areas under Duliajan police station gheraoed the office of Asom Chah Mazdoor Sangha (ACMS), Bordubi on Wednesday morning, demanding cancellation of the bilateral agreement between CCPA and office bearers of ACMS which was held on 26 February regarding the daily wage hike of tea labourers. They also demanded that the wages should be hiked to Rs 300 per day.

The protest programme was held under the aegis of Duliajan Anchalik unit of All Tea Tribes Students’ Association (ATTSA) where more than 2,000 tea workers under Tingri circle took part. The protesters raised various slogans in front of ACMS’s office against Tinsukia legislator Rajendra Prasad Singh, Congress leader Paban Singh Ghatowar, Dileswar Tanti and Bhimanda Tanti.

The protesters later submitted a memorandum to president/ secretary of ACMS, central committee, Dibrugarh through office bearers of ACMS, Tingri Circle. This was stated in a press communiqué by AATSA’s Duliajan unit president and secretary, Kamal Induar and Prakash Kumar Sahu respectively.
