ACS castigates BJP

From Our Correspondent
Itagar, April 8: The Aruchal Civil Society (ACS) has criticized the state unit of BJP for making an appeal with the capital administration for shifting of cow slaughter houses from tiol Highway. “The recent appeal made to the capital administration is hilarious and just a stunt to appease the BJP-ruled centre. The party workers who themselves are tribals from the state need to know that majority of the tribes in the state and Northeast depend on beef meat. Till now we really can’t see any visible cow slaughter house except a few beef shops in daily markets,” ACS chairman Patey Tayum said in a statement today. “It seems the BJP and its party workers are more interested in propagating the idea of Hindutva than the development of the region. The tribal state of Aruchal Pradesh doesn’t need to be a Hindu state for its development. Majority of the population here are Christian, rest are followers of Donyi Polo and Buddhism and a very few Muslims. In this secular country every religion should have the equal right to practice and propagate,” he added.
Tayum said rather than forcefully mounting the idea of Hinduism upon tribals, BJP should promote the indigenous beliefs and customs of Donyi Polo religion. Donyi Polo is an indigenous religion which upholds the culture of different tribes of the state.
