'Acting Syiem using unfair means to garner support'

SHILLONG, May 30: Tony Marbaniang along with other youths of Hima Mylliem has alleged that the Acting Syiem (Chief), Hima Mylliem Ricky Nelson Syiem had used illegal methods to get support from other Myntris for his candidature to become the Syiem.

Addressing the newsmen here on Monday, Marbaniang said, “The Acting Syiem had used illegal methods with the help of one Bahhun Mylliemngap and tried to influence myntris by offering money. He has also threatened some other myntris to get their support.”

He alleged that a kidpping case was registered against Ricky Nelson Syiem in 2007 for allegedly abducting a myntri. He informed that the illegal methods of the Acting Syiem were revealed to them by someone working closely with the Syiem who wants to shy away from all the illegal activities.

“We feel that the District Council is also acting against its own laws by suspending Latho Manik Syiem as the Syiem of Hima Mylliem because in the Hima Mylliem Act 2007 section 7 and 8 it clearly states that if there is any complaint against the Syiem, it should first be brought to the notice of the Dorbar Hima. However, in this case they just removed the Syiem without bringing the matter for discussion in the Dorbar Hima,” he said.
