SHILLONG, October 12: Prestone Tynsong Minister of Meghalaya Community & Rural Development recently stated that action has been taken against those involved in probable manipulation of tiol Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NERGS).
“When we receive any complaints against members of the Village Employment Council (VEC) be it the Chairman or Secretary action has always been taken,” Prestone Tynsong said.
He added, “There have been a few instances that we have directed the authorities concern to recover back the amount which have been miscued.” According to him, if the people involved in misusing the funds fail to recover the money in time then an FIR will be filed against them followed by an arrest.
On asked if there has been any arrest regarding manipulation of the NERGS, he said that so far there has not been any arrest since they have always maged to recover the funds. He informed that the Chairman and Secretary of the VEC are directly being selected by the job card holders and the department and Dorbar Shnong are not involved in the selection process. He also stated that as per the latest act it is not required for the job card holders to be highly qualified in order to elect or choose the Chairman and Secretary of the VEC. However in order to maintain the accounts and other things training are being provided.
“We have been able to reduce the manipulation of funds to a large extent since now the Job card holders have been asked to open their own accounts and their money is directly be transferred from the department straight to the BDO office and then to their accounts,” he said.
