MANGALDAI, April 18: Actress Bhagyawati Saharia, wife of legendary teacher Di th Saharia, popularly known as Di Head Master, of Bhebarghat of Mangaldai town breathed her last in the residence of her youngest son and Professor of College of Veteriry Science, Dr Kamala Kanta Saharia at Khapara on Friday night. She was 92.
Saharia, who hailed from North Lakhimpur town, established herself as a worthy daughter-in-law and a mother as she played an ideal role to mould and shape their seven children in the proper way. Despite the social restrictions prevailing in the society of that time around 1930-1940, she was one of the pioneers in co-acting as she took part in plays as a female artiste.
She leaves behind her children - retired Joint Director of Health Services, Dr. Joy Kanta Saharia, senior official of Sericulture Departmen,t Dharma Kanta Saharia, Professor of College of Veteriry Science, Dr. Kamala Kanta Saharia, eminent danseuse of intertiol reputation Bhanu Deka Saharia and Juriti Saharia. The funeral was performed at bagraha crematorium, Guwahati in presence of a number of family members and relatives on Saturday.
Fishery and Water Resource Minister Basanta Das has deeply mourned the demise of Saharia. Various organizations of Mangaldai like Youth Club, Mangaldai Unyan Parishad, Mangaldai Media Circle and Sadou Mangaldau Bihu Sanmilani have also condoled her death.
