LAKHIMPUR, May 24: Expressing resentment over rising fuel prices, the activists of the Dhemaji district unit of Anti-Corruption Youth, Assam (ACYA), staged a protest in Dhemaji town on Wednesday. The organization demanded Prime Minister Narendra Modi to initiate people-friendly steps to control hike in fuel prices. “The governments are drawing Rs. 30 as central tax and Rs. 18 as State tax on per litre of petroleum. As a result, the prices of essential commodities are also sky-rocketing day-by-day. So, our organization has demanded Prime Minister Narendra Modi to impose Goods and Services Tax (GST) on petroleum. Then per litre of petroleum will be available at Rs 50,” the organization stated in a press release. Further, the organization lambasted the Union and State governments for their lackadaisical attitude regarding the issue.
