DHEMAJI, May 28: Several hundred youths, including members of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Parishad of Joi and school -going students staged dhar at Murkongselek (Joi) Railway Station on Friday.

Though the protesters had plans to detain the Murkongselek-Guwahati Intercity Express at the station, it was not attempted after the Area Mager of NF Railway assured to pursue their demands. The collective protest was against the railway authority’s alleged negligence towards the long-standing demand of placing an additiol train on the Rangiya-Murkongselek route.

The protesters subsequently submitted a memorandum to the General Mager of NF Railway through the Area Mager, who was camping at Murkongselek Railway Station (Joi) for today.

The protesters’ demands include operation of an additiol passenger train from Murkongselek Railway Station in the morning for the convenience of officer-goers in North Assam region, introduction of a speedy train between Murkongselek Railway Station and New Delhi and enhancement of reservation seat capacity in the existing Murkongselek-Guwahati Intercity Express with 50 percent seat reservation for Murkongselek Railway Station near Ruksin.

It may be mentioned that the Murkongselek Railway Station Development Committee and other local organisations have since long been demanding an additiol train on this route.

Presently, two trains, mely Murkongselek-Guwahati Express and Murkongselek-Dekargaon Passenger, besides a few goods trains run on this route.
