AdiSU to launch agitation against Governor

FROM OUR CORRESPONDENT

Itagar, Dec 19: Disappointed with the non-response by the Governor JP Rajkhowa and the minister of state for home affairs Kiren Rijiju, the Adi Students Union (AdiSU) is all set to begin its agitation starting Monday next.

The union has been angry with both the Governor and the Mos for mentioning the mes of certain groups of Adi community during the celebration of Podi-Barbi festival.

Informing this to media persons at Press Club this afternoon, President Mida Pertin reiterated the union’s demand of apology from both the Governor and the MoS.

“Both being exemplary persons in the state, should know the sentiment of the people before coming out with anything,” he lamented while informing that Adi Baane Kebang and AdiSU had submitted a memorandum to the GoAP in 2009 to only mention the tribe’s me in the ST certificate and to do away with the mes of the sub- tribes.

“The governor is neglecting us. If he has done wrong, he should be humble enough to apologise,” insisted Pertin.

He made it clear that it would not tolerate anyone making the same mistake again.

General secretary Buteng Tayeng informed, “We will start with dhar. And if they still continue with their ignorance, we will go ahead with our second phase of agitation with bandhs in all Adi inhabited areas.”

“Before Ramo, Bokar and Pai Libo, we are Adis. By doing this, they are discrimiting us. Dividing us,” stated Auditor Jeni Bunyi.
