Advisory against use of bottled water in office functions

A  Correspondent

Shillong, May 2:  The West Garo Hills, Deputy Commissioner, Ram Singh on Wednesday issued an advisory not to use bottled water or so called mineral water during the conduct of any official meetings, conferences, workshops and other functions.

According to Singh, on most occasions, the served water bottles are left half used leading to waste of a good amount of the precious liquid. The DC further said that left over bottles only contribute to the growth of plastic waste.

Singh also suggested the use of low cost simple candle water filters for smaller offices and installation of electric operated aqua guard water dispensers for offices which remain crowded during office transactions hours.

It may be mentioned that the Ministry of Drinking Water & Sanitation, Government of India, has already stopped using bottled water during official functions and some States are also doing the same following the Central Government’s directives.

This advisory of the West Garo Hills DC is in keeping with the Central Government’s initiative of ‘Clean India Movement’ (Swachh Bharat Mission), a citizen centric movement with a view to achieve a completely clean and healthy India by October 2, 2019, marking the 150th birth anniversary of the father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi.
