AFC bans 15 Lao footballers for match manipulation

Vientiane, Feb 17: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Discipliry Committee has banned 15 Lao players for life from football-related activities for 15 years for manipulating matches.

The 15 players are current or former Laos or Lao Toyota FC players, Lao state-run news agency on Thursday cited the AFC as saying, reports Xinhua news agency.

The AFC investigation into the manipulation of matches involving the representative teams of the Lao Football Federation commenced in 2014 and remains ongoing.

The investigation has been supported by Sportradar and the FIFA Integrity Unit. In order to protect the integrity of the investigation, specific details including the relevant matches will not be disclosed, according to AFC.

At the same time, seven other players of Cambodia were also banned for life by AFC due to manipulation. IANS
