Agitators block NH-15 over death due to accident

MANGALDAI, Oct 20: Several hundreds of agitated public on Friday staged blockade of the NH-15 at Dumunichowki under Sipajhar police station in Darrang district with the body of one local youth Suman Sahil (20) who succumbed to his injuries in GMCH after the bike he was driving was reportedly knocked down by a truck carrying bricks on the Dumuinchowki-Kuruwa connecting PWD road on Thursday noon . The agitated public staged road blockade around 1 pm demanding compensation of rupees fifty lakhs to the next kith and kin of the victim and necessary legal action against the alleged illegal functioning of more than eleven numbers of brick kiln in Bahgorha area under Sipajhar Revenue Circle. More than one hundred long distance public transport left stranded in the road much to the inconvenience of the passengers especially children, women and elders.  

Additiol Deputy Commissioner Hari Prasad Bora, Circle Officer of Sipajhar Revenue Circle Mali Jain and Addl SP (HQ) Darrang Satyajit th rushed to the spot and tried to bring the situation under control. Later Deputy Commissioner Ashok Kr Barman and Superintendent of Police of Darrang Sreejith T. also arrived at the spot and brought the situation under control after almost three hours following assurance in front of the  protesting public of necessary compensation to the victim family both from the government and the owner of the truck and action against the alleged unruly practices by the magement of a section of brick kilns in the area.
