From a Correspondent

Haflong, Nov 19: Demanding immediate repair of all the roads of Dima Hasao in general and of NH 54 E in between Lumding – Mahur – Haflong in particular, the Dima Hasao AGP staged indefinite hunger strike at Mahur on Saturday. The hunger strike, led by former Chief Executive Member of NC Hills Autonomous Council and also a MAC, Debojeet Thaosen, along with Hlima Keivom, MAC, was participated by several AGP leaders and well wishers of AGP. Talking to the media, Thaosen said the roads in Dima Hasao were in a very pathetic condition, thereby causing great inconvenience to the people of Dima Hasao. Since the roads had been serving a pivotal role in the socio-economic uplift of the society, the people wanted the authorities concerned to give proper attention to the issue, he added. He further said that if they did not get any assurance from the competent authority regarding the repair of roads, they would continue their hunger strike indefinitely.  Most of the roads in Dima Hasao are in a dilapidated condition due to the alleged lackadaisical attitude of the authority concerned, including NHAI, for which the people of Dima Hasao have been facing a lot of inconvenience for long.
