From our Correspondent

MANGALDAI, March 15: In a major setback to the Asom Ga Parishad (AGP), the general secretary of Mangaldai District Committee and former Member of Council Legislative Assembly (MCLA) of Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) from 35 Mudoibari constituency, Keshab Chandra Deka has submitted his resigtion from the primary membership of the AGP.

The AGP here has been facing rough weather candidate selection in the constituency. Keshab Chandra Deka, a dedicated activist of the AGP since the time of Assam Agitation, was elected as the only MCLA of AGP in the BTC in the first Council Legislative Assembly following the creation of the Council. He was also the lone Assamese speaking MCLA among the 40 elected members of the Council. Deka was one of the aspirants for the party nomition.

Significantly, due to the alleged negligence and indifferent attitude of the office bearers of the district committee of the AGP, the party performed miserably in the recent civic poll for Mangaldai Municipality Board (MMB). Deka’s resigtion has been termed as a major loss to the regiol party in the BTC poll.
