Agriculture Director asked to explain on fertilizer adulteration

Staff Reporter

Guwahati, April 19: Based on the reports carried by The Sentinel over the last two days on adulterated fertilizers, the State Government on Thursday sought a report from the Directorate of Agriculture on the issue.

Additional Chief Secretary (Agriculture) KK Mittal on Thursday wrote a letter to the Director of Agriculture asking the latter not to issue any quality certificate without testing fertilizer samples.

The letter said that over the last few months there had been complaints that fertilizer samples, especially single super phosphate (SSP), coming to the State from outside had not been tested as per norms, and asked the Director of Agriculture to collect samples from retailers selling SSP. "You are further to submit explanation why the samples were not collected as per norms," the letter said.
