KALAIGAON/TANGLA, July 30: In a bid to maintain normalcy, peace and tranquillity in view of NRC final draft publication and the 72nd Independence Day celebration, to thwart the nefarious attempts of rumour mongers and to restrict the movement of insurgents along the Indo-Bhutan and Assam-Arunachal border, the Udalguri District Magistrate, Dilip Kumar Das promulgated Section 144 CrPC in the entire district with immediate effect on Sunday. The order prohibits assembly of more than five people in public places, carrying and display of firearms or lethal weapons, wall writing or fixing of posters, pillion riding in motorbikes and use of loudspeakers. However, judicial officers, executive magistrates, police personnel, army and paramilitary forces, medical officers and any person to whom permission is accorded by the Udalguri district administration, are exempted from the purview of this order.
