AICCTU, CITU observe May Day

MARGHERITA, May 2: May Day was observed at Durgabari Hall, Tinsukia on Sunday jointly by AICCTU and CITU.
The day-long programme started by hoisting of Red Flag by Comrade Nimai Dutta, former secretary of Kachujan unit of Assam Sangram Chah Shramik Sangha affiliated to All India Central Council for Trade Union. After that a procession was taken out where more than 400 workers took part. The procession was led by Comrade Subhas Sen, Comrade Mamoni Dutta, Comrade Arup Saikia, Comrade Brojen Konwar, Comrade Shikha Das and Comrade Debth Manjhi.
After the procession a workers’ meeting was held at Durgabari Hall, Tinsukia which was presided over by Comrade Subhas Sen, State Secretary of AICCTU and Comrade Mamoni Dutta. Comrade Subhas Sen, while addressing the workers, said that BJP government at the Centre had unleashed a reign of attacks on the democratic rights of intellectuals, artists, historians, women, students, youths and the working class also. “The rendra Modi government had started conspiring to abolish 14 out of 24 labour laws, besides amending a good many of them. Besides, the rendra Modi government has also promulgated Land Acquisition Ordince, thereby pushing 1,000 peasants to the point of committing suicide,” he said.
Comrade Subhas Sen said that only the working class could save the country from a dark future and hence, the central trade union had once again decided to declare countrywide strike on September 2.
