Aid, appliances distributed

SHILLONG, May 25: The Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporations (ALimco) of India which falls under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment today distributed aids and appliances to Persons with Disability (PWD) at Savio Hall, Laitumkhrah, Shillong.
Around 117 persons with disability benefited from the aids the Corporate Social Responsibility scheme.
The beneficiaries were accompanied by their mothers and fathers along with leaders of the Khasi Disabilities Association (KDA), Meghalaya Parents Association for the Disabled, SSA-Meghalaya including officials from Alimco and REC.
The aids and appliances distributed to the PWDs include wheel chair, ear phone, crutch, walker and kit bags. This is a first such initiative undertaken by the Rural Electrification Corporation in distributing aids to PWDs coming from various parts of Khasi and Jaintia Hills.
The function was also attended by D. Kharbudon, representative from Rural Electrification Corporation Limited Belbora Wankhar MePAD, Meirilang Kharbyngar, State Coorditor of SSA-Meghalaya, S. Sengupta, Mager of Alimco and Rajesh Rai, Technical of Alimco beside others.
Rajesh Rai, before distributing the aids to PWDs informed that the distribution of the aids was realized after an assessment camp held on 7 December, 2015 in Shillong.
He said the aim of ALimco is not just to distribute aid to PWDs in Shillong but to those residing in rural villages in Meghalaya and across the country. He further informed that Alimco is planning to organize a similar assessment camp in Garo hills with the assistance from various self-help groups.
