AIDSO voices concern at non-supply of textbooks

From Special Correspondent

Silchar, Feb 14: All India Democratic Students’ Organization (AIDSO), Cachar district committee, with its members and supporters assembled before the office of the Inspector of Schools, Cachar circle, here today, voicing concern at the abnormal delay in supplying text-books to the school students. Prior to that, AIDSO has submitted a detailed account of some of the schools which cannot make progress in the academic pursuit due to non availability of text-books on different subjects of different classes to the students.

The academic session 2017-18 has already been over by almost one and half months. The teachers too are worried as they cannot proceed with their lessons in the classes, affecting their studies. Against the requirement of 15 lakh books in the primary schools of Cachar, only 6 lakh has been supplied. As a result of which most of the schools are without text-books. Gour Chandra Das, general secretary, AIDSO, said though the Education Minister, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, gave assurance for supply of free text-books for the students of class IX and X, these are yet to be received by the school authorities.

He stated that during his last visit to Silchar, AIDSO did submit a memorandum to him for ensuring among others supply of adequate numbers of text-books as per requirements of all the schools of the district. The Education Minister in reply to the members of the Organization committed to make the text-books available by the first week of February which however has turned out to be just an assurance. While protesting before the office of the Inspector of Schools, AIDSO has sent out the message to the Education Minister to make available the text-books within a week, failing which it will be forced to go for long drawn agitation.
