Airport like amenities in Vishakhapatnam railway station lounge

Guwahati: A rare scene in the Indian Railways stations, this railway station in Visakhapatnam has been able to such amenities and facilities to the passengers which are never seen being offered in any other Indian railway station. A sight rather very common in the airports, the Vishakhapatnam railway station too offers its women passengers. Women passengers halting in the railway station will be able to avail airports like amenities such as clean and spacious toilets, shower rooms, green rooms and relaxing facilities. What is more, there is a baby feeding room as well for the new mothers who can breastfeed their babies at ease and without feeling awkward.

This effort of the Indian railways is a part of a programme to build toilets in all stations across India in which the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds will also provide necessary assistance. This is an initiative under the Swacchh Bharat Mission and the Waltair Division has built this lounge on platform number 8 of Vishakhapatnam railway station. Both men and women can avail the benefits of the lounge where there are massage chairs as well in addition to the dressing room and baby feeding room for women.

The new generation amenities designed in the station includes five toilets, eight urinals and two washrooms with shower which ensures a comfortable and hygienic use for the male passengers. In contrary to these, the female passengers can avail facilities of four toilets and two washrooms with shower. There are three massage chairs in a total of which two are for men and one for women. Moreover, the lounge is air-conditioned with a glass-covered space.

There are both lavatory and refreshment facilities in the lounge for which it is being named as the Refreshing lounge. The very design of the lounge is a work of the Divisional Railway Manager Mukul S Mathur. Further, the operation and maintenance of the lounge have been entrusted on an outside agency which is being selected on basis of the proper tendering system.
