AISF burns Patowary’s effigy in Golaghat, demands apology

Golagha/Dhekial, Feb 15: The activists of All India Students’ Federation (AISF), Golaghat district committee, burnt the effigy of minister Chandra Mohan Patowary in the heart of Golaghat town on Wednesday for his alleged comment in the Jorhat incident, in the State Assembly recently.

The recent issue of a college girl from Jorhat who exposed harassment and molestation of girls by some youths in the busy streets of Jorhat town through social media has created sharp reaction throughout the State.  In the regard, on Wednesday the activists of AISF took out a rally throughout Golaghat town and staged protest against minister Chandra Mohan Patowary for making comments which were allegedly disrespectful towards the girl. They shouted various slogans against Patowary and burnt his effigy.

Talking to media persons, Santa Chand, Puja Saikia and Sumi Kumari Nikita Chanda, all activists of AISF, slammed Chandra Mohan Patowary and warned him not to do politics over the issue of molestation. They said that it was a matter of pride for them that victim Shubhlakhmi had come out and protested against the alleged harassment and molestation of girls.

The AISF demanded  a public apology from Chandra Mohan Patowary, immediate arrest of the culprits and setting up a 24-hour helpline along with a special police unit to prevent such crimes against women.
