AISF slams Patowary, demands 24-hr helpline for women

Golaghat, Feb 14: The recent issue of a college girl from Jorhat who through social media exposed harassment and molestation of girls by some youths in busy streets in the town, has now created sharp reaction throughout the State.

The issue reached the State Assembly and minister Chandra Mohan Patowary stated that the girl should have first approached the police rather than posting updates on social media. Chandra Mohan Patowary’s remark was vehemently criticized by All India Students Federation (AISF).

AISF Golaghat district unit stated that the minister should not make political statements and criticized him. The student organization also demanded immediate arrest of the culprits and to setting up a 24-hour helpline along with a special police unit to prevent such crimes against women. AISF Golaghat district unit president Bitupan Gogoi and secretary Manos Bora appealed to all the organizations in the State to raise their voice for the rights and safety of women.
