AJYCP condemns human rights violation in Karbi Anglong

KHERONI, April 10: The AJYCP today condemned the alleged rape attempt by two army personnel at Dokmoka area of Karbi Anglong district.

“Army battalions have been deployed at Dokmoka to tackle terror activities but now it seems that the men, who are peoples’ protectors, are becoming perpetrators of human rights violation,” the AJYCP district committee said.

“Raping innocent women at gunpoint by members of security force is a serious crime and a gross human right violation,” the AJYCP said, demanding capital punishment to the culprits.

It has also urged the Union Home Ministry to look into the matter and ensure immediate justice and compensation to the victims.

Two army personnel are alleged to have made an attempt to rape two tribal women at a village in Dokmoka recently. The angry villagers had gheraoed the army camp at Dokmoka yesterday.

Police have registered a case in this regard while the army has also instituted its own inquiry.
