AJYCP leader held for 'nexus' with militants

FROM A CORRESPONDENT

MARGHERITA, Feb 6: Tinsukia police on Friday arrested the president of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP)’s Tinsukia District Committee, Surajit Moran on charges of his alleged nexus with lesser known militant outfit Moran Tiger Force (MTF). The newly floated outfit has created terror in Tinsukia district by threatening the Adivasi and Hindi speaking people over phone in the last few days.

The AJYCP’s Margherita Regiol Committee, however, termed the arrest of Moran as conspiracy and demanded his immediate release.

“Senior AJYCP leader Surajit Moran have raised his voice on different social issues and organized several agitation programmes in Tinsukia district during the last few years. As he protested against misconduct of political leaders, he has been framed and has been arrested on false charges,” alleged Salil Neog and Kanchan Bora, president and secretary respectively of AJYCP’s Margherita Regiol Committee.
