GOLAGHAT, April 23: The activists of Assam Jatiyatabadi Yuva-Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) Golaghat district committee staged a sit-in near the Deputy Commissioner’s office on Monday against the amendment of the citizenship bill, 2016. Activists of AJYCP shouted various slogans against the Narendra Modi-led BJP government and the Sarbananda Sonowal government for taking the decision to grant citizenship to Hindu migrants from Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan in Assam. Talking to the media, AJYCP Golaghat committee president Abdul Hasim said, “There is a conspiracy of the Central government to grant citizenship to the illegal migrants in Assam. If illegal migrants are settled in Assam, the people of Assam will have to suffer educationally, economically and politically.”

Further, he said that the people of Assam had carried out continuous massive protest against the decision of the Central government to grant citizenship to illegal immigrants settled in Assam. But the government had ignored public interest. The activities of BJP government which could destroy Assam would never be tolerated, he added.
