MARGHERITA, January 19: Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chaatra Parishad (AJYCP)  Margherita Regiol Committee had submitted a memorandum to the Margherita Subdivisiol Officer (Civil) on January 12 regarding illegal coal business in Ledo Colliery Village at Margherita.

AJYCP alleged that B Ganesh for many years had been engaged in illegal coal business in Ledo Colliery Village and was constructing a coke industry which would soon be completed. Kanchan Bora, general secretary of AJYCP Margherita Regiol Committee, said that even after seven days of the submission of the memorandum, the administration did not take any action against B Ganesh.

“There are 22 coal depots at Ledo but the owners of these depots are violating the rules and regulations of the Pollution Control Board. These depots are polluting the environment,” alleged Bora.

In protest against the alleged failure of Margherita administration to stop the illegal coal business and to take action against B Ganesh, AJYCP activists on Tuesday staged a demonstration in the North Margherita Rangamancha premises for three hours. More than 50 activists of AJYCP took part in the demonstration.

Salil Neog and Kanchan Bora, president and general secretary of AJYCP Margherita Regiol Committee, said that today they submitted a deadline letter to the Margherita Subdivisiol Officer (Civil) that if within 72 hours the Margherita administration did not take any necessary action against ‘notorious coal mafia B Ganesh’ and his alleged illegal coke depot and also against other illegal coal depot owners, then AJYCP would intensify its agitation.

Meanwhile, Margherita Police Station Officer in-charge Debojit Mahanta said that the illegal coal depot of Shiyal Line, Ledo, falls under Ledo Police Outpost so further instruction would be given to Ledo Police outpost in-charge to take necessary action against B Ganesh and his coal depot.
