AJYP protests against construction activities in elephant corridor in Golaghat

GOLAGHAT: The activists of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Parishad (AJYP) Morangi Regional Committee staged protest in front of the construction site of an industry on Monday. The activists shouted various slogans against the district administration to demand immediate stop construction of industry in the elephant corridor at Nambor Reserve Forest.

In a press statement, the president and secretary of the organization, Manab Gogoi and Puranjay Dutta respectively, said that some non-Assamese businessmen recently had started construction activities for operating their business by blocking the movement of elephants in the elephant corridor in the Thuramukh area of Nambor Reserve Forest. They also said that on July 2 they had submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner of Golaghat to stop construction of industry in elephant corridor. But as yet the district administration has not taken any action against the construction activities in the elephant corridor.

The general secretary of AJYP Golaghat district committee, Nipon Gogoi said that construction activities in the elephant corridor would never would be allowed and the industries which had already been set up should be evicted immediately. In the protest programme, AJYP Golaghat committee president in-charge Tutumoni Bora, natural activist Rituraj Phukan and AJYP town committee president Mintu Gogoi were present.
