Bongaigaon, April 10: President of All Koch Rajbanshi Students Union (AKRSU-B) Biswajit Ray today asked singer Zubeen Gang not to sing Hindi songs at Bihu functions.

“Otherwise, he will be responsible for any unwanted scenes created by activists of AKRSU or Chilaray Se at such functions,” Ray told a press meet here.

He said performances of such songs destroys the ambience and is an insult to the indigenous culture.

“So we appeal to Zubin not to indulge in any childish acts and stop singing Hindi and Assamese item songs in Bihu functions,” he said.

“We appreciate Angarag Mahanta, who presented the famous Koch-Rajbanshi song “Baitha maro re..” and took it to the intertiol level. But there are some artists who sing wayward and uncultured songs in Bihu or Baishagu or Bishuwa functions and also wear western costumes. It embarrasses the entire Assamese community,” Ray said, in an appeal to the artistes.

“We appeal them to present traditiol songs so that they can develop and promote our culture to a higher level. Else, we shall be compelled to initiate action and that artistes will be responsible for any untoward incident. We cannot compromise our culture,” he added.
