AKRSU bandh: Baton charge  on supporters in Chirang

Bongaigaon, July 9: The 24-hour Assam bandh called by All Koch-Rajbongshi Students’ Union (AKRSU) for the demand of separate Kamatapur state and ST categorization of Koch-Rajbongshi community, affected normal life in Bongaigaon and Chirang districts. All markets, educational institutions and banks remained closed during the bandh hours while commercial vehicles did not ply during the bandh hours. The activists of the student organization burnt tyres in several places. A vehicle was attacked and partially damaged by activists in Chapaguri area of Chirang.

In Chapaguri, police resorted to minor baton charge on the activists after they tried to attack a private vehicle in front of the police. One activist, Satyajit Sarkar was arrested by police from the spot. Other activists managed to flee from the spot during baton charge. No casualty occurred during this baton charge. On the other hand, few AKRSU activists were physically assaulted by the public in Palpara area of Bongaigaon on Monday. According to the public, the activists who came there by bike misbehaved with a woman whose shop’s door was open partially. The activists later fled from the spot. No other unwanted situation occurred in this region during the bandh.
