FROM OUR CORRESPONDENT
BONGAIGAON, May 20: The Hiteswar Barman faction of the All Koch Rajbanshi Students’ Union (AKRSU) has demanded that AGP leader Phani Bhusan Choudhury, who has been elected for seventh time from Bongaigoan constituency, should be given a berth in the new government in the state.
Addressing a press conference here, AKRSU leader Hiteswar Barman said, “Phani Bhusan Choudhury from Bongaigaon is a senior leader of AGP who had won from here for seventh time continuously. He is one of the most respected persons of Assam and so we demand that he should be given cabinet berth in the new Government,” he said.
Barman also appealed to the new government to take immediate step for granting ST status to six communities.
“We also appeal them to take necessary steps for formation of the separate Kamatapur state,” he said.
Meanwhile, former AKRSU president Biswajit Rai, who contested Assembly polls from Bijni LAC on Congress ticket, blamed the party top brass for the humiliating defeat of the Congress in the election.
“Party leadership is responsible for the drubbing of Congress. The arrogance of our leaders and lack of proper strategy have led the route of the party,” said Ray.
The former AKRSU chief, who got just 3,861 votes, said, “Congress party never tried to realize the sentiment of indigenous people of the State. This was the main reason behind Congress’ drubbing in the election.”
