UDALGURI: The All Adivasi Students’ Association of Assam (AASAA) has slammed the BJP for not keeping the assurances given to the Adivasi people of Assam. The NDA government has not tabled the bill for scheduling of the Adivasis in the Parliament and the wages of tea garden labourers has not been hiked despite the suggestion of the wage advisory board, said Stephen Lakra, the president of AASAA, while addressing a press meet at Udalguri Press Club.

“The government has given Android mobiles to selected tea garden labourers and paid Rs 2,500 to the permanent tea garden labourers. They are assuring free rice to tea labourers. But we are asking for our rights. The schools in the tea garden areas are running with single teachers. They had assured us 100 residential schools but where are the schools?” he added.

“The government is playing with the emotions of the tea garden labourers. Under such circumstances, the AASAA appeals to the tea labourers to cast their vote against the BJP,” Lakra said. He was accompanied by education secretary Raju Tirki, Udalguri district AASAA president Prakash Bara, secretary Pratap Singh Gorh and others.
