ITANAGAR: The All Arunachal Pradesh students’ union (AAPSU) has strongly endorsed the stand taken by its Siang valley based three federal unit i.e All Upper Siang District Students’ Union, All Siang District Students’ union, All East Siang District Students’ union regarding the unpredictable and unusual behavior of Siang river in its color texture and flow since last one and half year.

“The demand for ‘Water Treaty” between Government of India (GoI) and Government of China by the affected aggrieved student unions of three Siang District that has proposed to stage a Peaceful protest rally cum dharna at Pasighat tomorrow is most legitimate and is only the way forward,” general secretary AAPSU Tobom Dai said.

He said it is disheartening to note that despite havocs and inundation cause by flash flood of Siang River whereby several villages that have been established since ages uprooted and reverie eco system deeply affected the government of India still remain nonchalant and indifferent to the woes of its people.

The much touted inter-ministerial team requested by the state Chief Minister Pema Khandu through a letter dated September 4, 2018 to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh which was expected to visit the flood affected area is yet to see the light of the day as well. “The recent drying up and then unprecedented water surge the very next day in Siang river that brought down along with it several floating barrels bearing Chinese alphabet insignia of isocyanides (C6 H9 O2 N2) which is an explosive mainly used in heavy construction site,” Dai said.

Dai also added something amiss is going on across the border which the union government has time again played down at the pretext of natural calamities. It is time that the Government of India asserts and reaches out for ‘water treaty’ rather than remaining in denial mode lest one or the other day all the river emerging from Tibet region which is under Chinese occupation will face the same fate that of river Siang.
