LAKHIMPUR: The State committee of All Assam Unemployed Association (AAUA) has reacted to the State higher education department office memorandum issued to colleges banning the practice of recruiting teachers and non-teaching staff on part-time and contractual basis.

AAUA State president Dharmendra Deori and secretary Jiban Rajkhowa stated in a press release that over 1,500 posts were lying vacant in the colleges of the State.

“Despite filling up of these posts, the State higher education department issued notification to the colleges vide it office memorandum, AHE- 137/2019/4 in February not to engage any person as teaching and non-teaching staff where no sanctioned posts exist for the purpose. The move will render hundreds of people jobless and the colleges will face severe crisis in managing the regular classes due to shortage of faculty,” stated the press release further.

The organization has demanded the State Government to fill up over 1,500 vacant posts in the colleges of the State. It has also demanded to regularize the jobs of those teaching and non-teaching staff who have already been engaged in the colleges on part-time and contractual basis.
