SHILLONG, Sept 8: Aggrieved by the lack of available facilities and equipment players of Meghalaya Cricket Association (MCA) alleged that despite the association receiving fincial aid from Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) annually, the condition of players in the State still looks bleak.

The players on Thursday visited the office of the General Secretary of MCA to submit a memorandum pertaining to their various demands however they were uble to meet him.

An under 23 player Sarabjit Das while speaking with reporters here said, “Though the BCCI is sending fincial aid amounting to Rs. 50 lakh per year the development in the sport of cricket is still not there and we still have to deal with  poor facility and equipments.”

Uble to meet the GS of MCA, he said, “We want to meet the general secretary or other members of the association to apprise them about the grievances of the players.”

He alleged that even when a player gets injured while representing the state most of the time the player himself has to undertake all the medical expenses.

Informing that the under 19 players of Meghalaya are going to take part in the BCCI affiliated and associated tourment on September 15 at Bangalore, he said, “The players were informed about the tourment very late and till date the under 19 players has no clue who is selected for the team and even the caption has yet to be decided.”

He added, “It’s only a few days left for the tourment to begin and the players have to leave by September 13 however there has not been any practice session till now despite the fact that these boys are leaving soon.”

He said the players have yet to take part in any practice session while players from Manipur and Sikkim have been conducting practice sessions for the last 2 -3 months in preparation for the tourment.

Stating that the players playing in the tourment will be selected to play for the North East team, he said, “If not much practice session is given to them then how will the players be able to perform well to get selected into the North East team in the first place.”

The players have also questioned the MCA on the future of under 23 players, since there are no further categories in which they can represent and also no other reason to continue the game of cricket.
