Alleged rape of minor at Margherita

DIGBOI April 21:   Sensation grips Margherita in Tinsukia district of Upper Assam since late Friday  evening  after an aged person allegedly raped a minor girl at Lajum village under Margherita police station.

 The OC of Margherita police station, Girin Sonowal, said, “The accused identified as Innul Haque (55) of Lajum village allegedly raped a 7 -year-old girl last evening at his residence after luring her. The ghastly act of the accused was confirmed after it was medically ascertained by a local female doctor,’ said Sonowal.

“We have received a formal complaint from the victim’s father late at night and sparing no time the culprit was arrested by the police. Subsequently a case under Section 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 has been registered against the accused.  

The victim who is a student of standard  I has been sent this morning for further medical examination at Tinsukia Civil hospital  

According to the local residents, the minor victim was alone at home while the parents, being daily wage earners, had to go out to work the entire day and the accused, being neighbor, called her and committed the ghastly act.  

“The victim told her mother about the incident soon after reaching home. Eventually, her parents, along with a group of villagers approached the police,” said a neighbor of the victim.

Meanwhile, expecting exemplary punishment for the accused if proved medically, Mugdhajyoti Mahanta the Superintendent of Police, Tinsukia said that special thrusts has been laid in the district to combat the menace of minor sexual abuse, rape, human trafficking and atrocities upon the women. “The entire resources at all police stations and out posts in the district have been specifically mobilized and instructed to deal with the said forms of crimes on women and children with an iron hand,” added Mahanta.
